Environmental Statement

The concerns of the design community regarding environmentally safe products are shared by Sina Pearson Textiles.

A good starting point when considering how environmentally friendly fabrics are is to consider the useful life of the fabric. How long will the end user be able to use the fabric before it begins to show signs of wear and needs to be replaced. All Sina Pearson Textiles fabrics are rated as heavy duty under the Association of Contract Textiles (ACT) guidelines, and most far exceed 50,000 double rubs wyzenbeek, assuring longer useful life. In addition, many of our fabrics have Crypton® technology, making them easy to clean, retaining heir original appearance. Virtually all other SPT fabrics can be treated with Nano-Tex®, an environmentally friendly permanent stain repellent finish.

We believe both synthetic and natural fibers can be used to create environmentally sensitive products for the end user.

For example, our Bella-Dura fabrics begin as a by-product of post-industrial waste and end their life as a 100% recycled product. Bella-Dura fabrics have achieved MBDC Cradle to Cradle silver certification. Other SPT synthetic fabrics are made of solution dyed nylon yarns, which use no water during dyeing. Their extreme durability and ease of cleaning ensure the textile will retain its appearance for a very long time, making it less likely to be discarded.

Bounce (details)

Our European natural fiber mills, located in Switzerland, England, Germany, Holland, Ireland, Belgium, and Italy all conform to specific government standards for emissions, dyeing, weaving and finishing. Environmentally friendly, non-poisonous acid and pre-metalized dyes are used under the direct supervision of purification water boards that regularly monitor wastewater. Virtually all have ongoing recycling programs in place for office paper, shipping pallets, yarns and fabric scraps.

For people who want the purest form of an environmentally sound textile, we offer Bounce, a Climatex fabric. More than a decade ago, the Swiss mill that manufactures Bounce pioneered sustainable manufacturing processes with William McDonough and Michael Braungart. For instance, in selecting dye chemicals for the Climatex® fabrics, they found that out of 1600 available dyestuffs, only 16 were found to be 'safe' for the environment. Because the Bounce is woven with wool/ramie blend of 'clean' yarns, the fabric is 100% biodegradable and compostable. In fact, the leftover scraps in the mill are used to create felted cover mulch that is used in nearby gardens. No wonder Bounce has received the MBDC Cradle-to-Cradle Gold certification.

We are a textile company dedicated to bringing the best possible product to the marketplace, while doing so in an environmentally safe manner. Since our inception our sample box sets and all printed labels are made from recycled/recyclable paper. We recycle all shipping and office paper waste. Our offices, located on the 9th floor of a NYC loft building, have wall-to-wall windows (energy efficient), providing natural daylight, cutting down use of artificial lights. We donate all discontinued yardage to local charity organizations for use by schools and non-profit arts groups. Discontinued samples are sent to student library organizations. We will continue to seek out the best resources that mirror our commitment to creating a better environment for all of us.
