Care of Sina Pearson Textiles Solution-Dyed Recycled Polyester Fabrics

PDF icon Download [PDF]
No matter how soundly constructed an upholstery fabric may be, it will not wear well if it is not cared for properly. The following care practices are key:

Fabrics made from recycled solution-dyed polyester yarns may be cleaned with all conventional upholstery cleaning systems, including both water-based and solvent-based solutions. In addition, the colorfastness properties of the solution-dyed fibers enable the fabrics to be cleaned with more stringent cleaning agents including diluted chlorine bleach, when necessary to remove difficult stains.

Routine care of fabrics reduces accumulation of soil and stains on the fabric surface and is necessary to maintain the appearance of the fabric over its lifetime. Following are recommendations for ongoing maintenance of these products:

  1. Vacuum the fabric periodically to remove accumulated dirt and dust. The frequency of this and any other routine maintenance is determined by end use conditions.
  2. Blot fresh spills immediately.
  3. Ensure that the fabric is adequately rinsed after cleaning, as residual cleaning agents may accelerate soiling.
  4. Have the fabric professionally cleaned whenever large stains or an overall soiled condition occurs. It is recommended that the upholstery fabric be professionally cleaned on an annual basis.
  5. Turn and rotate cushions on a regular basis.
  6. Do not remove cushion covers to launder or dry clean.

Some fabric cleaning methods may cause damage to underlying materials used in panels and upholstered furniture. Contact the furniture manufacturer for recommendations and precautions prior to attempting any of the following procedures. Always follow the manufacturer's recommendations for using upholstery cleaning products, and always pretest an inconspicuous area of the fabric for colorfastness to the cleaning agent.

Stain Removal Matrix:
Solution-dyed polyester fabrics have excellent stain removal characteristics when subjected to the cleaning methods listed below. For most stains, a clean, absorbent cloth dampened with the appropriate solution should be applied to the stain. Before applying the solution, carefully scrape away any dried-on materials. Blot the fabric with the treated cloth, working from the outer edge of the stained area moving inward. In order to effectively draw out the stain, renew the cleaning cloth frequently. Rinse well with clear water, and dry the fabric as quickly as practical. Avoid over-wetting the fabric with cleaning fluid or water so as not to damage underlying materials: several light applications of cleaning solution are preferred. It is important to clean stains as soon as possible after they occur: successful removal of many stains becomes increasingly difficult as time passes.
