The Textiles of Africa Collection

1996 IIDA Product Design Competition: Honorable Mention
1996 IIDA ACCLAIM Award: Homnorable Mention

One of the most unusual textile forms found in Africa is the Kuba cloth, a small rectangle woven out of highly textured raffia fiber. Each piece is unique yet there is tremendous consistency among all Kuba cloths, for each explores rigorous geometric patterns while maintaining its handwoven characteristics. Inspired from one of the more subtle Kuba cloth patterns, the fabric Kuba Cloth is a highly textured weave with an all-over half-dropped rectangle pattern. The polyester chenille used in the fabric provides a lustrous and soft, comfortable hand, making Kuba Cloth especially suitable for lounge seating. Its smaller scale textural patttern and rich, earthy colors also work well on task seating or side chairs.
