The Obi Collection

While visiting the renowned flea markets of Kyoto, I came across numerous vendors selling antique country textiles. These fabrics, originally woven for work clothing, were lustrous from years of wear, and the colors, once rich and earthy, had faded to subtle neutrals. One could find light weight cotton kimonos along with heavy obi sashes obviously woven by hand, using hand spun yarns. These treasured textiles form the inspiration for the Obi Collection. Obi Stripe has the traditional horizontal stripe of the hand crafted obis. Kasuri is named for the tie dye fabrics with a fragile linear effect while Pine Needles offers a larger scale random pattern that works equally well on small seating units. The Obi Collection celebrates 'ordinary' fabrics made for everyday wear that are simply extraordinary.
