The Textiles of Africa Collection

1996 IIDA Product Design Competition: Honorable Mention
1996 IIDA ACCLAIM Award: Honorable Mention

The Textiles of Africa Collection is inspired by the traditional 'primitive' handwoven fabrics of the African peoples. The uneven handspun yarns in those textiles lend a sophisticated quality which is timeless in its appeal. That handcrafted look is found also in the Textiles of Africa Collection. African Stripe is a textured frisé horizontal stripe with a striae background. Kente Cloth has thick and thin linen blend yarns that form fine vertical stripes reminding one of the renowned strip weavings of the Kente people. Kuba Cloth is a subtle smaller scale broken twill pattern woven with strong polyester chenille yarns. All 3 patterns are available in rich earthy colors inspired by the vegetable dyed hues of the traditional African textiles.
