  • Joined Momentum in 2004
  • Industrial Design
    North Carolina State University

An affinity for the seemingly opposite subjects of art and mathematics led Lydia to pursue a design degree at the North Carolina State University College of Design. There, Lydia earned a Bachelors of Industrial Design and was first seduced by textile design while experimenting with fiber arts in her peripheral studies. From exploring native textile arts in Ghana and Ecuador to attending a seminar in Biomimicry, Lydia has sought uncommon experiences to apply to her 10 years of design work in the residential, contract and hospitality industries.

Her passion is to explore innovative and challenging materials, while environmental concerns are also a common thread in her career. College projects involved recycling and drew inspiration from the natural world. Later studies in biomimicry taught her to look to the natural world not only for inspiration but also for technological solutions. This led to a third place win in an art competition for a dress woven from selvage waste. She looks forward to seeing her passions intermingle as sustainable design becomes more and more mainstream.

At Momentum, Lydia has brought her wide-ranging experience to the LoomSource brand of hospitality fabrics. From an initial focus on upholstery for guest room seating, Lydia has expanded the brand to include boutique looks, indoor/outdoor fabrics and drapery.  Most recently she has researched environmentally-friendly fabric constructions and finishes and developed the brands first Reduced Environmental Impact collection.
